SpongeBob SquarePants is a quirky, unique, and adorable show about Spongebob Squarepants, a talking sponge who wears pants, socks and shoes. He lives in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom. One day, an enormous volcano prepares to erupt, which causes earthquake-like tremors throughout Bikini Bottom. To stop the volcano, Spongebob, along with his friends Patrick Star the starfish and Sandy Cheeks the squirrel, plan to go to the volcano to stop it from erupting. Thus the trio begin their journey to save their beloved town before it’s too late.
This brand new musical premiered on 7 June 2016, at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago, which closed on 10 July 2016, it premiered on Broadway at the Palace Theatre, with previews that began on 6 November 2017, and opening night set on 4 December 2017. They’re also performing in Macy’s 2017 Thanksgiving Day Parade on 23 November 2017. The parade will be on NBC.
The cast includes Ethan Slater as SpongeBob SquarePants, Lilli Cooper as Sandy Cheeks, Danny Skinner as Patrick Star, and Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Tentacles.
Ethan Slater started his theater career as Joseph Cornell in Hotel Cassiopeia. He is mainly known for his roles in the short film Lightning Bugs In A Jar in 2015 and Evol in 2017. This lead role as SpongeBob is his first main broadway role. Lilli Cooper started her career as an actress as Mom in Sleep Tight in 2016. She played the role of Claudia in a 2016 episode of Bull and played the role of Female EMT in a 2017 episode of Elementary. Her role as Sandy is her first broadway act. Danny Skinner started acting in 2011 as Pete Meade in Allison Clemens. After that, he was in Jest Originals as Peter and Rally Goer in 2012. Then Danny was in a 2013 episode of Professional Friend as The Umpire. Right before going on broadway, Danny was in a 2015 episode of New Mayor of New York as Carl. Playing the role of Patrick is Danny’s first broadway role.
Gavin Lee started his acting career as Bobby Child in 1997 in the broadway play Crazy For You. Since then he’s been in many forms of entertainment over the years. He’s mainly known for his role as Bert from the broadway play of Mary Poppins from 2004-2013.
SpongeBob SquarePants is full of an interesting amount of musicians and celebrities as the songwriters. Original songs were written by famous musicians including Panic! At the Disco, Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, and Plain White T’s.
The writer of SpongeBob SquarePants is Kyle Jarrow. He started his career in 2004 and has written 11 scripts since then, including SpongeBob SquarePants. His list of scripts include The Wildness, Whisper House, and Noir.

If you are an old fan of SpongeBob, then I think you’ll love this musical. It has the simple comedy and in-depth versions of old, familiar characters that you know and love. This musical gave me a lot of nostalgia and reminded me of when I used to watch SpongeBob when I was younger.
