With the weather warming up everybody wants to be outside. The grass is green, the trees are blooming, the sun is shining, and it’s time to crack open the barbeque.
Nothing is better than hamburgers cooking on a grill, the smell of smoke and kerosene filling the air. A fruit salad full of all the best fruits and an amazing summer dessert on the counter awaits. The night is young, the weather is warm, and the options seem endless. It is sometimes hard to plan the perfect BBQ, but don’t worry. Here are some tips and tricks to having an amazing summer BBQ.
Make sure you have good meat. Nothing is worse than looking forward to a nice hamburger then biting into it and having it be more crispy than juicy. You also want to make sure you have a variety of meat, hamburgers and hot dogs aren’t the only good foods to eat at a BBQ. Ribs or steak can also bring that traditional barbeque feel.
Surround yourself with friends and family. Invite as many people as you can— brothers, sisters, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, cousins, that strange neighbor from down the street. BBQ aren’t any fun if you're alone and they’re even worse if people you don’t like are there.
Serve tons of fruit. Summer is when fruit is in season. The fruit salads that can be made are endless. Make sure to get watermelon, strawberries, bananas, grapes, and any other fruits that captures your fancy.
Pick a day that has good weather. Nobody wants to be sitting outside, thinking that it’s the perfect day for a BBQ when the sound of thunder echoes loudly. Before planning the ultimate BBQ, check the weather. Sunny with a nice breeze seems to be the best weather, so when picking a day, keep that in mind.
Plan activities for lapses in eating or talking. Sure, part of the fun of a BBQ is just sitting around talking, catching up on all the recent drama, but when conversation runs out, it’s always fun to have activities prepared. Volleyball, soccer, or frisbee are easy sports that are fun and everybody can get involved in.
Make sure to have an amazing dessert. Some suggestions for the best desserts are s’mores, strawberry shortcake, or ice cream.
Have more food than just hamburgers and hot dogs. Sure, hamburgers and hot dogs are good, but there needs to be more. Chips or potato salad are always good options paired with pasta salads, baked beans, or corn on the cob. Make sure to have a variety of sides available.
Keep the bug spray and sunscreen handy. Along with the warm weather comes the sun and the bugs. To protect your skin from the harmful rays, always have sunscreen on hand, preferably SPF 50 or above. Bug spray is also a necessity. Getting eaten alive by bugs should not be on your summer agenda so bring the bug spray.
